Drayton U14 4 Hethersett U14 1
Drayton earned their first win of the season in style; Martin opened the scoring in the first three minutes after Drayton had seen two goal bound efforts cleared off the line. Pearce won the ball in midfield and played a clever ball between the centre half and right back, Browne then did the hard work beating three players before finding Martin in space who drove the ball past the advancing keeper. Hetherset played some neat football and started to threaten Drayton's advantage. Dismore made a superb save at the feet of the advancing forward averting a certain equaliser. He quickly released the ball, Smith won the header in the middle of the park and found Crowe on the right wing, he travelled some twenty meters before crossing, Martin always a menace in the box pounced to score his second. Two minutes later, Browne added to his tally after a dazzling run by Crowe on the right, his cross caught out Hetherset's keeper who could only tip the cross onto the bar, Browne smashed the loose ball into an empty net. Hetherset continued to play some neat football and once again Crowe was at hand to sweep up when he anticipated a ball behind the defence. Drayton then earned a corner and in the confusion, Smith was unlucky not to increase Drayton's lead when his shot went inches wide.
Drayton continued the second half where they left off, Smith working tirelessly took a quick throw, found Crowe whose attempted chip was ablely saved. Cooper played some neat one touch football, playing menacing balls behind Hetherset's defence. Drayton then won a free kick, Clarke found Cooper, his headed flick finds Martin whose first time shot went marginally wide of the upright. Hetherset then took the initiative, won a free kick on the eighteen yard box forcing a world class save from Dismore. Pearce then found Browne with a well threaded ball that skipped past his marker and scored his second of the match. A piece of magic from Pearce released Martin after he beat three players in the middle of the park and threaded the ball between the defence. Hetherset continued to press and were rewarded with a consolation goal. On the left Platford made two vital interceptions, and on the right McCloud was equally resilient. Drayton could have scored two further goals after Bush picked up the ball on the left wing, and drove two undefendable crosses into the box - on each occasion Drayton's attackers were inches from making contact with the ball.
The midfield trio of Pearce, Smith and Crowe dominated the match with Pearce playing neat balls between the defence, Smith awesome in the air and Crowe's non stop running and orthodox wing play creating openings.
Man of the Match: Adam Dismore who made two world class saves ensuring Drayton took all three points.
