Wroxham signalled their intentions for the new season with a thumping 4-1 win over Felixstowe & Walton in the Premier Division.

But there was disappoint-ment for Norfolk's other sides Dereham, Norwich United and King's Lynn Reserves who all lost. Wisbech were beaten in their first game under new management - although highly-fancied Mildenhall had the result of the day, beating Whitton United 8-2.

In Suffolk, Lowestoft were 2-0 winners over promoted Ely, while neighbours Kirkley & Pakefield lost 2-1 at CRC.

The Yachtsmen went ahead through Paul Cook's header, although Danny Phillips lvelled from the spot. Alex Notman hit a cracking 25-yard shot then Andy Key hit a second-half double.

Dereham have high hopes for the new campaign but were beaten 3-0 at home by fancied Leiston. Mark Lowe and a Stuart Broadley penalty put them in control and although they lost full-back Wardley for punching Dereham's Graham Barrett, Dereham were unable to get back into the game, and Daniel Cunningham hit a 90th-minute penalty.

Alex Vincent put King's Lynn Reserves ahead against Stanway Rovers but they conceded four goals.

Norwich United were beaten by newcomers Wivenhoe at home, their goal coming from Paul Atkins - while Wisbech have now gone a decade without an opening-day win, after losing to promoted Tiptree. Kirkley slipped up in Cambridge, despite hauling themselves back into the game when Gilmore scored his first goal for the club - only for Lewis Carr to score a scrambled winner for CRC.

At Mildenhall a hat-trick by Robbie Harris helped them to an 8-2 victory over promoted Whitton. Last season's runners-up, Needham, were 4-1 home winners over Haverhill.
