Canaries boss Peter Grant is still “hopeful” that he can thrash out a deal with Celtic to bring goalkeeper David Marshall to Carrow Road.

Norwich had a bid worth £500,000 rejected by the Glasgow giants last month but Grant still believes that the deal can be revived.

“We are very interested in David as everyone knows,” said Grant. “We had an offer rejected by Celtic as they are perfectly entitled to do and I can understand their position.”

Grant believes that Marshall's availability is dependent on whether Celtic No.1 Artur Boruc decides to stay at Celtic with the Poland international being linked with big money moves to Aston Villa and Bayern Munich.

“The Boruc situation is one that seems to be affecting it,” said Grant. “As everyone knows there has been a lot of interest in Boruc and that will inevitably affect Marshall's situation.

“Unfortunately it's one that could run for a few weeks as at the end of the day it is up to Celtic. It's frustrating but we have got to live with that. But we have certainly not given up hope of getting him - we are still hopeful.”

Marshall's agent, Willie McKay, came out earlier this week stating that he thinks his client will remain at Parkhead unless a “decent offer” comes in.

But Grant has taken heart from the fact that Marshall has come out stating that he wants to become a Norwich player and should Boruc decide to stay a Celtic player then the Scotland international could be lining up as a Canary next season.

The City boss said: “The boy has come out and said that he wants to come and play for Norwich City and that has certainly been positive from our point of view. He is very keen to come to the club.”

Grant insists that he will know when the time is right to give up on Marshall and switch his attentions elsewhere.

“I will sense when I think a deal can't be done. I still think there's hope there for us because he has made it quite clear that he wants to come and play for us. He has come out in the media and admitted that.

“It is one that could run and run but we will have to wait and see what happens.”
