Norwich City's Aademy side restored some Canary pride at Colney today when they ran out 1-0 victors over Ipswich town in a compelling local derby that threatened to boil over in the dying minutes with a player from either side receiving their marching orders.

City rode their luck somewhat with town hitting the woodwork on no less than three occasions, but with Andrew Cave-Brown in stunning form at the heart of the City defence, David Williams' side were well worth their win.

With Joe Lewis likely to start for the reserves at Watford on Monday night, Williams gave a start to first-year trainee Steve Arnold, and he was quickly called into action to save from Charlie Sheringham.

City had a let-off shortly after when from a free-kick Cathal Lordan struck the post, this coming after Arnold had handled the ball outside the area.

City's first attack of the game almost brought a goal when Asmat El Ouargui, returning from injury, set Seb Muddel clear, but Town keeper Oskar Petursson did well to narrow the angle and make a good save.

Tom Miller was having a good game for City in the centre of midfield, and El Ouargui just failed to get onto a ball over the top of the Town defence from the City schoolboy.

Arnold again came to City's rescue, although he needed the help of the woodwork when he turned a Lordan free-kick onto the crossbar before Cave-Brown headed the loose ball clear.

With 44 minutes on the clock the Canaries took the lead when Andrew Fisk picked out El Ouargui, who quickly fed MUDDEL, who made no mistake this time firing the ball home.

Ipswich started the second half fully intent on getting back on level terms, and a succession of three corners saw Arnold make a couple of important saves.

Town were then denied by the woodwork for a third time when substitute Tony Botto hit the bar, and from the follow-up Matthew Halliday managed to block the shot from Billy Clarke.

With ten minutes left on the clock City were reduced to ten men when Miller was shown his second yellow, and he was quickly followed by Lordan for his second yellow.

City however managed to finish on top with substitute Chris Martin going close with a shot from the edge of the box.
