Ahead of returning to Carrow Road amid strange circumstances next week, Southampton winger Nathan Redmond has been reflecting on the happy memories of his time with Norwich City.

Saints head for Norfolk on Friday, June 19 as the Premier League campaign resumes behind closed doors following the suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic, with Redmond looking to improve upon a return of three goals and one assist from 23 top-flight games so far this season.

The 26-year-old was due to miss two months after picking up a muscular injury in February but is back in training and in contention to face City, where he scored 14 goals in 123 games between 2013 and 2016 - scoring at Wembley in the 2015 Championship play-off final, sparking some epic celebrations.

“We’d stayed in the Hilton opposite Wembley the night before and the night before the game we said that win or lose, we’re going to come back here and have a drink, celebrate what’s been a great season,” Redmond recalled.

“So after the game it’s taken us forever to get out of the stadium because we’re all having a drink, singing, dancing in the changing room and then we get over to the Hilton and Delia and Michael have hired out the bar at the top!

“It’s got all of our friends and families, everyone’s mixing and mingling - and that sort of sums up the club. You’ll hear it from so many players who have played for Norwich, who say that the club and the area as a whole is unbelievable.”

The speedy forward joined the Canaries from Birmingham for around £3million and was sold to Saints in a deal reportedly worth around £12m after relegation from the Premier League under Alex Neil, which was a club record sale at the time. He has since been capped once by England, in March 2017, and is a regular under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Talking to Sky Sports, he continued: “The biggest thing about moving to Southampton at the time was that I remember looking at the squad list and just thinking ‘wow’ there’s some very talented players and international players in this squad, which hopefully I could learn from.

“I knew they were getting a new manager so everything was sort of new for me and I just wanted to go there and learn as much as I could.”
