The Norwich City Girls’ Centre of Excellence is celebrating with the news that U15 Goalkeeper Nina Scammell has been selected for the England U15 Camp later this month.

Nina has been part of the Centre of Excellence since 2006 when she was selected for the U10s.

The camp runs from Monday 24th – Friday 28th October and will be based in Lincolnshire, including two fixtures against Norway on the Wednesday and Friday.

If selected for a fixture against Norway, Nina will be playing at the ‘County Ground’, home to Lancashire FA.

Nina is the eighth player from Norwich to have been selected for the England camps, and if she is picked to face Norway, will be the third goalkeeper to be awarded an international cap.

Norwich City Girls’ Centre of Excellence was one of only thirty centres to have been awarded an FA licence, following an application process back in April/May 2011.

Norwich have held a licence for over 10 years and within this time have seen players selected at U15, U17 and U19 level for training camps and matches.

Players can only be selected for international duty if they are playing for a Girls’ Centre of Excellence; trials are held annually but recruiting happens during the season through the FA Player Development Centres across the country.

Centre manager Emma Fletcher said: “We are all so pleased for Nina, she has thoroughly deserved her call-up. If she wins her first cap it will be a fantastic achievement not only for her but for the centre. This shows that there is a great deal of talent in Norfolk and Suffolk and any player wanting to emulate Nina can do so through hard work and determination.”
