Iwan Roberts expects a classic battle at the Walkers Stadium tonight, as his two favourite former clubs go head to head. The Wales international scored 44 times in 111 senior games for Leicester, featuring in two promotion seasons, later adding 96 goals to his career tally in 306 outings for the Canaries.

Now he expects his two former employers to deliver a barnstorming match as they both compete for a shot at the Premier League.

Roberts told Leicester’s official website: “Leicester and Norwich are the first two results I look for every week so I will definitely have an eye on what happens.

“They’re two very good clubs that I really enjoyed playing for and I love to see them both doing well because they have a special place in my heart. With the way it’s shaping up, it looks to be a very tasty fixture.”

He rates the current promotion race one of the most exciting of all time, with Sven-Goran Eriksson’s team 10 points adrift of the automatic promotion places in ninth, but still trying to make the play-offs: “I played in the Championship for 15 years and it’s always been quite close, but I’ve never known anything like this season,” said Roberts.

“Leicester have an experienced manager who has been successful wherever he has gone. He doesn’t show a lot of emotion on the touchline, he has more of a quiet manner and I think that has a calming influence on his players. From the position they were in when he got there, he’s done an unbelievable job.

“Paul Lambert already had a good squad of players and he has strengthened that with good, experienced pros who know this level, so I’m not surprised they’ve managed to carry that momentum into this season.

“They’ve got unbelievable self-belief and the number of late goals they have scored this season shows the never-say-die attitude they have in their squad. They’ll be there or thereabouts.”
