Former Canaries striker Leon McKenzie has signed for League Two side Northampton Town. The 32-year-old was a free agent after being released by Charlton in the summer and has signed a contract until the end of the season with the Cobblers.

Ex-Canary Adrian Forbes is hoping for a coaching role at Carrow Road - if he is forced to draw a line under his playing career.

The 31-year-old is a free agent looking for a club, but admits a return to the club where he began his career in the mid-90s would be perfect.

Forbes and his family live in Norwich and he admits it's a case of being patient before he makes his next move.

Adrian Forbes believes he can carry on playing following his departure from Grimsby Town this summer.

The 31-year-old had his Town contract cancelled 12 months early last month and is now a free agent searching for a new employer.

But while his injury-hit time in Cleethorpes saw him register just 30 appearances in 18 months, he feels he can play on at a seventh club if the opportunity arises.

Forbes said: "I still feel I have something to offer a football club.

"I know I'm still capable and have a good CV of my time in the game.

"I'm confident I can get something sorted.

"The problem I have is that the transfer window closing means most clubs have their quota of players sorted now.

"Of course, there could be a chance, if a player gets injured somewhere, of going in short-term.

"But most will have their players in place so we'll have to wait and see what happens - it's a bit of a waiting game for me now.

"I went up to Darlington and trained for a week in July.

"I spoke with their manager and his assistant and they were keen to see more.

"The club policy up there, however, is to see players in a game situation before they make a final decision and wanted me to do that. But Grimsby weren't keen on me doing that.

"Since my time there, a couple of mates of mine have done that and earned deals .

"Grimsby said no, which I found a little bit weird - but I could understand (chairman) Mr (John) Fenty's position in a way.

"He didn't want one of his players getting injured on trial somewhere else.

"I'm just keeping my fingers crossed to see if anything crops up - maybe there's a chance again at Darlington."

The player, who began his career at Norwich City and still lives in East Anglia, is hopeful of getting a deal as a player but hasn't ruled out a move into coaching either.

He says there could even be an opportunity back at Carrow Road.

For now, though, he's staying patient and playing house-husband while wife Rachel begins life as a University student.

Forbes went on: "Everyone knows I am interested in coaching as well and I have spoke with Neil Woods at length about that.

"It's possible I could get a role in some capacity at Norwich City, which would be ideal for me.

"My wife, Rachel, is from Norwich and we live there with the kids still.

"To go back where my career started in a role would be perfect but I will weigh up any options that come my way - either playing or coaching.

"I'm playing house-husband at the minute.

"Rachel starts university next week to study midwifery.

"It's something she has wanted to do for a long time and after being fully supportive of me over the last nine years or so, she deserves it.

"She's been with me through thick and thin and there's been a lot of thin.

"My two older kids, Jordan, 9, and Ryan, 6, go back to school this week, while the youngest, 15-month-old Mason, starts nursery.

"She is from Norwich and we are settled there as a family so with the kids at school it is good for her to pursue what she wants and leave me at home for a change."
