Paul Lambert is the perfect man to handle the high expectations of Norwich fans, according to former Canary Dion Dublin.

Lambert has excelled as City boss since landing the hot-seat last August, guiding Norwich to the League One title and a deserved return to the Championship.

Norwich supporters have responded overwhelmingly to their success, with a record number snapping up season tickets ahead of the big kick-off against Watford on Friday.

Lambert, who won 40 Scottish caps during an illustrious playing career, has insisted his side is ready for the challenge after a pre-season which included a 2-1 win over Premiership outfit Newcastle.

And Dublin, who started and ended a nomadic career at Carrow Road, believes the Canaries are in safe hands.

“They have got a great manager and I think they will do very well,” said Dublin, who won four England caps.

“I think after being promoted Norwich will be a force, they will look to consolidate but I am hoping they will do more than that.

“If they can get to tenth then the fans and the manager will be happy but they will probably want more and the fans will definitely want more.

“They have 21,000 season-ticket holders and with that comes a bit of pressure but it is going to be a really interesting season for them and I hope they do well.

“It is difficult after you have won the league and you have those expectations but the pressure is good and I think that is what the top managers and the best players look forward to.”

The 41-year-old, speaking courtesy of npower to promote the Football Saver tariff, also sang the praises of promising young striker, Chris Martin who bagged both goals against the Magpies to go alongside 23 he notched last term.

And Dublin, who made 78 appearances in the famous yellow jersey, believes that with a stronger mental attitude, 21-year-old Martin has the ability to excel at the highest level.

“Chris Martin had a good season last year and I played with him when I was there and he has got all the potential that he needs to go on and make it into the Premier League,” he added.

“All he has to sort out is his head and is stronger mentally and then he will be more than good enough to score goals in the Championship.

“I hope he does get enough games to show what he can do.”
