King's Lynn Town gained their first points of the new UCL season with a late Jack Defty effort against ten-man Boston Town at Tattershall Road last night.

Kevin Boon and Gary Setchell made two changes to the team that went down so disappointingly at Long Buckby on Saturday with Kieron Doherty and Robbie Harris replacing Ross Kelly and Scott Cubberley.

New signing, ex-Norwich City full-back Pat Bexfield took his place on the bench.

Doherty had the game's first chance when his angled drive was comfortably held by home stopper James Doughty. Danny White hit the bar with a 30-yard rasper which then hit the grounded Doughty and bounced away to safety.

Both Jack Defty and Harris had the ball in the Boston net but their efforts were ruled out for offside and a foul respectively.

Just prior to the interval home striker Gary Bull was shown a straight red card by referee Kinnear for an elbow on Jamie Alsop which left the Linnets full-back receiving lengthy treatment.

Bexfield replaced Alsop at the interval and was quickly into the action as his long raking pass located Defty, who played the ball on to Harris, who was denied by a last ditch Shaun Baker tackle.

White's header was inches away as Lynn continued to press in the face of some desperate home defending.

Defty put a shot wide of the right post but made amends on 85 minutes as he was on-hand to tap in from close range following a goal-mouth scramble to give the Linnets a throughly deserved three-point haul - and set them up for their first home UCL encounter with Irchester on Saturday.
