Former Norwich City striker Jamie Cureton is hoping to win a contract with Exeter City after spending last week training with the League One club.

The 34-year-old told the Express and Echo in Exeter: "It would definitely interest me if I was offered something at Exeter. It is definitely something I would consider.

"It's been good down there so far. Training has been enjoyable, the lads are a good bunch and I have been really impressed with the training ground, so I have enjoyed every minute I have been down there so far.

"The manager invited me down because he knew I was out of contract and showed some interest. There's not talk of anything else at the moment, but he said if I do well then we will talk about stuff."

Cureton says he had also heard lots of positive stories about the Grecians from former Norwich City teammate Matt Gill.

"I know Gilly from my time at Norwich and he only had good things to say about the club. He was always praising the club and manager," Cureton said.

"The manager was a few years above me at Southampton, so we knew each other, and I know Andy Tillson really well and I know Marcus.

"I know a lot about the club having spoken to Tilly a bit before I was invited down. He was saying I should come down because I would enjoy it, so it has been quite a familiar place to me because there are people there I know. It has been quite easy to come in and train to be honest."

But if nothing comes of the Grecians' interest in his signature, Cureton is still hopeful of finding a new club elsewhere before the start of the 2010/11 season

Cureton said: "I'm not a fussy person. If I feel comfortable and saw the club was ambitious and it is a place where I will enjoy my football, then I would be very open-minded.

"I would like to stay at as high a level of football as possible for as long as possible, so League One would be ideal, but I wouldn't rule out anything. If it is going to be good for me and my career I would be happy.

"It would be nice to come back as I have got all my family in Bristol, so it would be nice to join a local team.

"But if an offer came from abroad or up north I wouldn't turn it down just because I wanted to be here. I can come here when I retire. I have been away for so long its part of the norm for me.

"But at the moment training with Exeter suits me and I think it suits the club. It's quite an open arrangement. Paul has asked me to let him know if something else comes up and then we will deal with it from there, but I have no other concrete offers at the moment.

"It's just nice to be training with a club. As long as I'm in training and doing well then hopefully there might be an option at Exeter."
