Lowestoft Town secretary Terry Lynes says any talk of looming fixture chaos is premature after the Blues suffered their fifth successive postponement yesterday.

Today's scheduled Ryman League Division clash at Canvey Island-based Concord Rangers was called off early, with a snow covered pitch making the decision a mere formality.

Lowestoft have been left idle since beating Thamesmead 3-1 at Crown Meadow on December 19 - and their FA Cup commitments earlier in the campaign mean they have played just 18 league games, the lowest tally in the entire division.

It's a frustrating period for the league leaders - but Lynes insists there is no cause for concern at present.

“As it stands, all the postponed games have got new dates,” he said. “Weather permitting we'll be playing midweek games until the end of March to catch up.

“There are still some free dates in April if there are more postponements - but obviously the more games we lose the more crowded the fixture list will become.”

The Blues are due to travel to fellow title chasers East Thurrock on Tuesday, a game that is already under threat.

There is unlikely to be any football played in Norfolk and north Suffolk today - barring Carrow Road of course.

The entire Ridgeons League programme was called off yesterday, with Walsham le Willows v Kirkley, Wisbech v Newmarket, Great Yarmouth v Swaffham, Ipswich Wanders v Diss and Thetford Town v Downham Market among the casualties.

It's likely to be a similar story in the Anglian Combination - while today's four scheduled Norfolk Senior Cup quarter-finals were postponed yesterday.

The ties at Ridgeons League grounds involving Dereham and Gorleston and Wroxham and Norwich United have been re-arranged for Tuesday while the all-Anglian Combination showdowns - Loddon v Mattishall and Spixworth v Cromer - will be now be played next Saturday, weather permitting.

The rearranged midweek dates already look doubtful and if they are postponed the Dereham game will switch to Saturday, with the Wroxham tie being put back to Tuesday, January 19 because of the Yachtsmen's continued involvement in the FA Vase. They are due to travel to Yorkshire to play Armthorpe Welfare in a fourth round tie next weekend.
