Lowestoft Town are determined to bounce back in the league after their FA Cup dreams were shattered in north Wales.

It was heartbreak for the Blues last Saturday as Wrexham grabbed a fortunate goal via a deflection in the 88th minute at the Racecourse Ground.

But Lowestoft beat Ilford in the Ryman League Cup on Tuesday night and return to league action today keen to regain top spot in Division One North.

They travel to Enfield today before hosting Great Wakering Rovers at Crown Meadow on Tuesday evening.

Six points from the two games could see them challenging for top spot with games in hand.

Joint manager Micky Chapman said: “We've got to perform. We've got a tough encounter at Enfield. They're doing well and are a good footballing side.

“We're looking forward to it. We only had one league game last month because of the cup run. That was fantastic but we've got to focus on what's ahead.

“There's a lot still to achieve and a lot we're still aiming to achieve. We moved on in the League Cup against Ilford on Tuesday. It gave us an opportunity to get back on the field and get the lads' minds focused again. Good sides bounce back and that's what we did.

“We started a bit slow and sluggish. The boys had a bit of a gee-up at half-time. They knew they hadn't performed, but all credit to the boys yet again. They got it together and second half they just dominated. They showed a lot of character to come back from 1-0 down and win 3-1. We deserved it and they couldn't live with us.”

Chapman was full of praise for his players after their FA Cup encounter at Wrexham.

“Sometimes football bites you on the backside,” he said. “The boys deserved so much better, they were fantastic. We are so proud of their achievement to get to the first round and also their performance and attitude and the way they conducted themselves on Saturday at Wrexham.

“Unfortunately it just wasn't our day. There's a very thin margin between success and failure and between winning and losing. Everyone needs a bit of Lady Luck, and on Saturday Wrexham got it.

“A big mention to the supporters; what a fantastic turnout. They were vocal all game. The behaviour was first class and they did everybody proud and a big thank you because they made such a difference to us.”
