Yarmouth Town leapfrogged over Diss into second place in Ridgeons Division One after beating visitors Long Melford 3-0.

After a goalless first half, in which Scott Woodcock hit the underside of the bar and visiting keeper Paul Wood made some excellent stops, Yarmouth finally ended the stubborn Long Melford resistance.

Mark Thompson scored in the 58th minute, feeding on Stewart Roach's first pass to shoot under Wood's dive.

Four minutes later Roach himself made it 2-0 after a Fernando Vide and Oliver Savage one-two helped the ball to Martyn Magee who flicked on to Roach who scored off a post.

Diss dropped to third after losing to visitors Halstead Town 3-0. The Tangerines were returning to league action after a break of almost three weeks and were well beaten.

Halstead are playing catch-up with their league fixtures and seem certain to be one of the teams pushing for a promotion slot at the end of the season. Ryan Sutton scored the first goal in the 15th minute then on 34 minutes a free-kick from Mark Emerson was headed on by Lee Townrow for Tom Devaux to shoot in.

The third goal came in the 49th minute when Devaux beat Webster in an aerial challenge at the far post to head the ball across for Turner to have a simple head-in from three yards out.

Diss had a good last 20 minutes but the game was already lost. The closest to a goal was when a long throw-in from George Watts-Sturrock caused problems and Townrow headed against his own bar.

It was a tough game for a depleted Swaffham squad who made the long journey to FC Clacton but lost 6-1.

The score was not a true reflection of an entertaining performance by both sides. Clacton scored through a penalty then Coyle netted to make it

2-0 at half-time. Two further attempts missed by Matt Kenny saw the teams go in for half-time 2-0 to the Seasiders.

The Pedlars started the second half the better side as they had the first but were knocked further back by goals in the 51st and 56th minute, the third from Coyle, the fourth from a free-kick. It took until the 77th minute for Stuart Seales to get the Pedlars off the mark.

Too little, too late for Swaffham who further conceded in the 79th and 87th minute. With this win Clacton continue their run at the top of the league with only one defeat, while Swaffham drop a place to eighth.

Other results saw Cornard United lose to March Town United 2-1, Downham Town suffer a 6-2 defeat at the hands of Stowmarket Town, and Godmanchester Rovers lose 1-0 to Team Bury.

Ipswich Wanderers hosted Fakenham and won 2-1, Thetford lost out 8-4 to Brantham and Whitton drew 1-1 with Gorleston.
