Norwich City director Michael Foulger says he is confident that Norfolk businesses will respond to a call to arms and help finance Bryan Gunn's rebuilding plans.

Norwich City director Michael Foulger says he is confident that Norfolk businesses will respond to a call to arms and help finance Bryan Gunn's rebuilding plans.

While City have been unable to attract the big-money investors that have helped fund the likes of East Anglian rivals Ipswich, QPR and Wolves, Foulger is concentrating his efforts lower down the scale.

Foulger is often seen as a background figure behind the likes of Delia Smith and husband Michael Wynn Jones, but the managing director of Attleborough-based Banham Poultry has been instrumental in a number of transfer deals, which have required outside income.

It's locally where he is more likely to be found, knocking on doors and making the calls.

“I don't suppose there's a real preference, but I think with the club's values then Norfolk is an ideal place to look,” he said.

“But it's really looking at anyone who wants to support and invest in Norwich City, not just as an investment but because they want the club to progress.

“I try to look at it from this smaller scale principle, whether it be through shares or small loans.

“I am also trying to support it myself and hope people will come through as well.”

Foulger has been alongside the club's majority shareholders since November, 1996, when they joined the board at Carrow Road.

“I have been proud to support Michael and Delia where possible and my task is to find investors of any amount to come in and support the board and the club,” he said.

“I have a good list of contacts, but I did start the ball rolling through the season, at the transfer window time, and had a good response.

“If I can find 20 people of some scale it will be a big help. That's not set in stone but it's the principle.

“I think with the wealthy people in Norfolk, to start at that scale where it is acceptable to 20 people, if we can build on that we are then hoping that someone will come in with serious investment to come and join the board. But I am aiming more at individuals.

“I don't want to put a figure on what I'm looking at, but it has to be something they are comfortable with.

“This is an attempt to try and move forward and give Bryan as much as we can for his player budget.

“I am positive and buoyant that we can get somewhere. It's not going to be easy - but watch this space, because I am confident I can do it.”
