Norwich City Ladies lifted the Norfolk & Suffolk County Cup after beating West Lynn Ladies.

The South-East Combination side beat underdogs Lynn 5-0 in the final at Fakenham Town FC on Sunday.

City's goals were a brace by Paige Shorten and one apiece by Sophie Fuller, ex-Lynn player Nicola Bray and Jodie Drake.

Player of the match was Beth Bygrave.

West Lynn hit the woodwork in the second half when it looked like they were going to score the goal their hard work deserved.

After the game Norwich co-manager Emma Fletcher said: “It was satisfying winning the Norfolk and Suffolk County Cup and bringing it back to Norfolk after losing to Ipswich last season in a game where we felt we didn't really demonstrate our true capabilities on the day.”

She praised their lower-league opponents for battling well. “Full credit must go to the West Lynn side who never gave up and were unlucky not to have scored a consolation goal.

“They were always going to be a tough side to beat as we knew very little of them, having never met them in any competition before and credit must go to them for achieving a place in the final.”

She added: “We had a 20-25 minute spell in the first half where we passed and moved the ball extremely well, as we have done in several league games this season, and this probably won us the game.”

After their cup success Norwich can now concentrate on the league where they currently lie seventh, with just two games left.

West Lynn are having a great season in the Eastern Region Division One - gunning for promotion, hopefully as champions.

Fletcher said: “We wish West Lynn the very best in their title bid.”
