Bryan Gunn says his work in the transfer market will mean at least one new face coming into Carrow Road next week.

The new Canaries boss has wasted little time in compiling Team Gunn, but says his work is far from finished.

“There is no week off with my telephone,” said Gunn. “We can do some work today, we can do some work tomorrow morning after the game on Saturday.

“We want to hit the ground running straight away.”

Gunn is almost certain to bring in defender Andrew Davies from Stoke, after a deadline day moved was thwarted by the weather and the difficulties Stoke encountered in signing Stephen Kelly from Birmingham. That deal has gone ahead - reopening the door for Gunn to sign Davies on a half-season loan as soon as the seven-day transfer ceasefire ends on Tuesday.

City were understood to be keeping tabs on Lincoln City's Lee Frecklington, but the midfielder is now on his way to Peterborough United.

“We have identified areas we need to strengthen and will be doing our utmost to do that with the full backing of the board of directors,” said Gunn.

“We have got options, is the best way of putting it. There are certain situations that we have been made aware of that we can maybe benefit from.

“I think the positive thing for us is these players are seeing that Norwich are hopefully on the way up and they know that they are going to have to come here and be involved in a battle to gain points and we have to convince the players they will get games and will make us a better team

“That is something between now and 9am Tuesday that myself, Ian (Butterworth) Ian Crook and John Deehan will be trying to do.”

City number two Butterworth says Davies will provide a much-needed challenge for the central defenders.

“That's what we've been looking at,” he said. “We need that competition for places, we need to try and build a squad for our survival plan and that's one of the names we're looking at. He's a quality payer and he's on our so-called list, now we just have to see how many of them we can get from the list.”
