Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2025.

The Canaries also have the option to extend the deal by a further year until 2026.

The Scottish international’s previous deal was due to expire next summer, but his three-year extension will see his stay at Carrow Road stretch to at least seven years.

McLean was signed by Norwich in the January of 2018 for a six-figure sum, before being loaned back to Aberdeen until the end of the 2017-18 season.

In his first full season as a Norwich player he scored three goals as the Canaries won the Championship title, before becoming a regular in the Premier League the following season.

The 30-year-old won his second Championship title in 2021, but was relegated again a year later. To date he has 158 Norwich appearances to his name, scoring 11 goals.

McLean had recently been linked with a return to boyhood club Rangers, where he spent time as a schoolboy, having reportedly been the subject of interest from north of the border for a number of years.

He said of the new contract: "It's something I'm really happy to get done. I’m really happy and settled at this football club and have made many happy memories here.

"On the pitch, highlights have been the two promotions. The changing room is excellent which makes it easier, you're coming into work every day with your mates.

"It's a great club to be at, they look after you off the field in a lot of ways. It's a properly family club.

"We’ve now got a really important period coming up. We know we’ve got to improve on the pitch, but we’re raring to go and can’t wait to get back into the season again."

Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber said: "Kenny has been outstanding for us since he walked through the door.

"As a club we invest in young talents to develop, but it’s important we have a core of senior professionals to help guide our younger players - Kenny does that and more.

"This contract is reward for a player who has stuck with us through ups and downs and is an integral part of our plans going forward.

"Kenny has also continued to develop in his leadership. He will become an even better role model for our younger players, not only with his performance but attitudes and behaviours around the Lotus Training Centre and on matchdays."

Head coach Dean Smith added: "We’re really pleased that Kenny has committed his future to the football club. He’s a very valuable member of our squad, dressing room and leadership group.

"His experience and knowledge of the game is second to none. He’s really appreciated and valued by all of the coaching staff and dressing room, so we’re delighted to have sorted the contract and have him with us for the long term."
