Norwich City have been drawn at home to Championship rivals Blackburn in the FA Cup third round.

Dean Smith’s side will host Rovers over the weekend of January 7 following the draw made on Monday night.

But Norwich City’s Women’s team face an away trip to third tier Burnley after landing an historic place in the third round of their competition, with a date to be confirmed in due course.

Smith’s side will get a chance to strike an early blow when they host Rovers in league action on December 17. The former Premier League champions have won two of the previous three FA Cup meetings between the sides.

Blackburn sit third in the Championship standings four points and two places above the Canaries. Chilean international Ben Brereton Diaz is top scorer in the division with nine league goals.

Jon Dahl Tomasson is in charge at Ewood Park with former City academy chief Gregg Broughton now Rovers' director of football.

Smith guided the Canaries to the fifth round of last season’s competition, after 1-0 away wins at Charlton and Wolves. But City bowed out against Liverpool in a 2-1 defeat at Anfield.

Takumi Minamino’s brace eased the Reds into the next round, with Lukas Rupp scoring from long range in reply.

Norwich have only got past the fifth round once in the last decade, when they were beaten at Carrow Road by Manchester United in the quarter-final in 2020, during the ‘Project Restart’ period with no supporters present in the stadium.

In other notable third round ties, Manchester City will host Chelsea in a heavyweight Premier League tussle. Stevenage’s reward for beating King’s Lynn Town is a trip to Aston Villa. Ipswich host Rotherham and Everton travel to Manchester United.

City Women’s squad face their first away game in the competition against the Clarets. Shaun Howes’ team had previously beaten Cambridge United 4-1 and then Enfield Ladies 2-0 at home, before Megan Todd’s late penalty brace secured a 3-2 comeback win against lower league Sutton Coldfield on Sunday at The Nest in front of more than 340 fans.
