Josh Sargent has returned from the World Cup with a spring in his step as he seeks to continue his Norwich City goalscoring form.

The striker played three matches for the USA in Qatar, although missed out on their round of 16 clash against the Netherlands are sustaining an ankle injury.

Since returning to Norfolk, defender Ben Gibson has been explaining how the squad have seen a lift in his confidence as the USA international looks to add to his tally of nine goals in the coming weeks.

"He's buzzing," Gibson said. "Josh has been great this season and he looks full of confidence every time he steps out on the pitch.

"Like for everyone, last season had moments where it was really hard but we've seen him go from strength to strength - as you do with any striker when they're confident and are hot.

"Sarge has all the attributes to play at the top level in my opinion. He's robust, he's physical and he's quick. I don't see a lot of the shooting sessions but they tell me that he's a top, top finisher.

"I'm absolutely delighted for him. Let's hope we can feed him and take this on another level in the back end of the season."

Whilst Sargent was playing for his country, his domestic colleagues were training in Tampa preparing for the return for the Championship - which saw them beat Russell Martin's Swansea 1-0 at the weekend.

The aim for the second half of the season is for City to showcase real improvement in terms of performances as they continue their quest for an instant return to the Premier League.

Gibson is casting Sargent as an example of the levels Norwich's squad should be seeking to reach if they want to be successful this season.

"It was fantastic to watch him play. We were obviously out there in America and it was great to see him in the game that he came on in and the one that he started. He has obviously represented the club great.

"Sarge has been one of our best players this season and he is someone we can always look to for inspiration," City's defender said.

"We have to take the mantle and demand more from ourselves to be up there with him whether that is scoring goals or keeping clean sheets, we have to raise our standards."
