I was working at the Coventry Building Society Arena last Saturday afternoon and because Norwich’s game against Blackburn was a 5.30pm kick-off, by the time I got to Thetford I was able to listen to the second half thanks to Chris Goreham and Radio Norfolk... I kind of wished I’d left 5Live on!

The best way I can describe that second half is had it been played in my back garden then I would have closed the curtains – that's how bad it sounded.

Even Chris failed to put any kind of positivity on the performance and he’s always a glass half full person when Norwich City is concerned.

If the performance was bad the atmosphere sounded far worse think. Toxic was the word to describe the atmosphere inside Carrow Road last Saturday on more than one occasion.

I’ve been there many times and not just at Carrow Road when things aren’t going well. Supporters who pay their hard earned money vent their anger and frustrations at the level of performance on show. If I’m honest I can totally understand their reaction, even though at the time it’s horrendous to go through as a player.

During and after the game the most venom and anger was aimed at head coach Dean Smith and, like it or not, he’s got to take it on the chin. He needs to come out swinging in the next few weeks and try and prove people wrong, his job depends on it.

Lots of things are said straight after a game when someone sticks a microphone under your nose. Your adrenalin is running through the roof, you’re angry after that type of performance and sometimes you bite to a question that’s asked and say things you might not have had you had a decent amount of time to clear your head and had time to think things through.

I think Dean will regret saying what he did about how he can’t wait for the next game as it’s away from Carrow Road. I get what he’s saying, numerous times in my first season I was in the home dressing room wishing we were playing away because of all the stick I was taking because of my performances.

I’ve said it before on quite a few occasions, 10 minutes before going out I’d nearly be physically sick in the toilet worrying about what’s going to be shouted at me today.

It’s not nice but you somehow have to try and ignore the noise, roll your sleeves up, dig in and prove supporters wrong. There’s simply no other way.

I’ve heard the rumours that Dean’s lost the changing room. To be fair that’s always the first thing that’s said when a manager is struggling.

I don’t think he’s lost the changing room, there will be some players who will be desperate for him to be sacked, there will be others who will want to fight tooth and nail for him and keep him in the job.

I remember when Martin O’Neill took over from Mark McGee at Leicester. He really struggled in his first couple of months. The Foxes fans didn’t take to him and they wanted him gone. All sorts of abuse was hurled at Martin, he got his head down and dug in and he had the last laugh. That season we won promotion via the play offs by beating Crystal Palace with a stunning Stevie Claridge last minute goal in extra time.

He kept Leicester in the Premier League for four consecutive seasons finishing in the top half every season. He also guided them to two League Cup finals winning both, not too shabby for someone the fans wanted out at the infancy of his Leicester career.

Just over a week till Christmas Day and what do I want? The obvious answer would be my two front teeth, which wouldn’t be much use as I’ve actually three missing!

I did get some new dentures in the summer. I wasn’t going to mess about with these veneers that posh people have; I’m more old school than that!

For the first time in about 37 years, I’ve got Boxing Day off so I can spend it with my family. That’s not a bad little gift I must admit.
