Norwich City youngster Tony Springett has joined Derby County on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old winger will link up with the League One side immediately to help in their promotion bid under Paul Warne.

Springett, who has made two appearances for the Canaries this season, admitted it was a tough decision on whether to head out in search of first team football following the arrival of David Wagner as head coach at Carrow Road.

“It’s been quite a hard process because I had to decide whether to continue my journey with Norwich and try and burst into the Championship or come here and try and burst into a squad that are doing so well and trying to earn promotion,” he said.

The lure of extra game time and working with lifelong City fan Warne at Pride Park proved crucial in the decision-making process for Springett.

“I think that’s probably the main reason why I chose to come here,” he said. “I had a couple of other choices but I had one facetime call with Paul Warne and that made my decision straight away. He’s such a nice guy, easy to get along with and has pretty good banter to be fair so he made my decision for me.”

Springett has been with Norwich since the age of 12 and has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-18 level.
