Norwich City full-back Max Aarons is the subject of interest from 14 clubs this January, according to reports.

The Sun have claimed that the 23-year-old is being monitored ahead of a potential swoop, and that the 14 clubs scouted him in the Canaries' 4-0 win over Preston North End on Saturday.

The report states that included in those clubs are Premier league surprise package Fulham and Portugues giants Sporting Lisbon, as well as French side Rennes and Daniel Farke's Borussia Monchengladbach, who have long been linked with the England under-21 international.

Aarons has struggled for form this season, making just two assists and scoring once. His status as the only fit first-team right-back at Carrow Road virtually guarantees him game time in the mid-term future, however, and new head coach David Wagner's methods allow him much more freedom than predecessor Dean Smith.

That freedom allowed him to impress in that victory at Deepdale, where both of his assists so far this term came. A return to the form he's previously shown could reignite interest in him, in which case the report claims that Wagner could turn to former charge Tommy Smith.

Smith was promoted with the German at former club Huddersfield in 2017, playing an important role from right-back as they won the play-offs. He left the club shortly after Wagner did, however, joining Stoke City in 2019 after the Terriers' relegation from the top flight.

He made 106 appearances for the Potters before leaving last summer to join Middlesbrough, where he's played consistently and been a key man under new boss Michael Carrick.

He's made 18 Championship appearances so far this season, as well as appearing twice in cup competitions, without registering a goal or assist.

Speaking about Norwich's prospects in the January window, sporting director Stuart Webber said: “It's not like we were sat here about to sign six or seven players on January 1, that wasn't the case.

"It's never been a window where we do a lot anyway. I mean, traditionally, we've never done great deals in January. We've got a strong squad."
