Paul Warne has rubbished claims Norwich City have made moves to sign Derby County's highly-rated defender Eiran Cashin.

The Canaries were linked with firm interest in the 21-year-old centre back, who has been one of the standouts in the Rams' League One promotion push.

Warne returned to his boyhood club to recruit Tony Springett on loan for the rest of the season this week, but Cashin is a key part of his plans.

"There was a bid for one of our players earlier in the window which was a speculative bid that was nowhere near it," said Warne, quoted on the Derby Telegraph.

"I have spoken to the player, he is aware of it. We've moved on and has nothing has changed.

"If you're insinuating Cashin to Norwich or anything crazy like that because six people on twitter said it, it's definitely not true.

"If it is true I'd be amazed the chief exec hasn't told me because even more so I spoke to the head of football at Norwich in the last few hours.

"In that respect there have been no bids, nobody is for sale and there is zero benefit of me selling anyone because my job, selfishly, is to run the team not a personal mortgage system.

"It would have to be stupid money for us to sell anyone and I would have to be pretty stupid to sell anyone. I can't be any more strong about that."
