The return of Norwich City winger Christos Tzolis from his loan at Dutch side FC Twente is close to being announced, it is understood.

Tzolis is expected to be a part of Wagner's first-team plans for the rest of the season, with a lack of options out wide sparking discussions with the Eredivisie side as to whether he could return to Norfolk during the January transfer window.

The Enschede side agreed to his return by mutual consent, which is set to be confirmed by the Canaries in short order.

Dutch journalist Leon ten Voorne, who covers Twente for regional newspaper TC Tubantia, claimed via his Twitter account yesterday that the 21-year-old would "most likely return" to the Canaries after a disappointing spell with the Reds.

Tzolis has made 15 appearances for Twente, scoring three times. He joined them from Norwich last summer after failing to live up to his £8.8million price tag in NR1, starting just three league games in his first season in yellow and green.

The 13-times-capped international suffered a knee injury midway through his spell in The Netherlands and returned to Norfolk for his rehabilitation, but returned to training with the Enschede side and appeared on the substitutes' bench for their 1-1 draw with Feyenoord yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

Current Norwich head coach David Wagner stated in a recent press conference that he expected Tzolis to spend the rest of the season with his loan club, saying: "It was great that I was able to meet him.

"He trained with us once because he was in the building when I arrived but, unfortunately, there is no clause in the contract that we can call him back (in January).

"This means he will stay at Twente until the end of the season and hopefully he gets a lot of minutes and good games under his belt."

Twente's agreement made the deal viable, however, and Tzolis could feature in Saturday's clash with table toppers Burnley. Wagner's side are not likely to sign any new players during the January window, with the deadline now less than two days away for English clubs.
