In a post-apocalyptic world, three friends are forced to fend for themselves and survive despite being severely outnumbered by the raiders that are out to get them.

It may sound like the plot of a Hollywood blockbuster by James Cameron or Steven Spielberg, but the latest film to grace the silver screen is much more local.

Called Blastaway 2 Raiders Revenge, the 35-minute movie was written and directed by Rupert Harold, a 15-year-old Cromer Academy student, and other young people from that school as well as Sheringham High and Paston College in North Walsham.

Rupert said he was thrilled with the reception to the film at its world premiere, which took place at Lighthouse Community Church in Sheringham.

He said: “The film project itself was a passion project and involved a lot of hard work from all the actors, who I thank greatly.

“The event couldn't have been possible without all the support from the local public and the support from the staff of Cromer Academy.”

Raiders Revenge is the second in a series - Rupert started making the first film when he was just 13. Two friends - Tom Phillips and Jack Woodward - helped with the script editing of the sequel and also star in the film, which features scenes in Cromer, East Runton, West Runton, Alymerton and Sheringham.

Rupert said he got the idea for the film when walking in the West Runton woods.

He said: “I had a simple story that involved a group of friends, surviving in the wild alone due to the result of some sort of disaster.

“This later developed into the actual film storyline of Blastaway.”

Rupert said he hoped to become a professional film editor and director, and plans to make a feature-length film in the next few years.

He said some of his favourite films were the Lord of the Rings, the Star Wars trilogy, the two Avatar films, and Lawrence of Arabia.

Rupert said: “This is due to the cinematic breakthrough that these films achieved and the way that they innovated the film industry to what it is today.”

Both Blastaway films can be watched on YouTube.
