David Wagner wants Norwich City fans to whip up a storm to inspire his squad to halt Premier League-bound Burnley.

The German is up for the challenge against the Championship leaders on Saturday, but warns it will need a top performance on and off the pitch to halt the Clarets.

Wagner has made an impassioned plea to turn up the volume at Carrow Road.

“A great challenge so come on, bring it on,” he said. “Let's try to do our best. I have no idea how the result will go in the end, but I know if the atmosphere at Carrow Road is buzzing, and for sure to get a positive result it has to be, then we have a chance. So try to grab your chance with both hands.

“I can promise we will try everything, we will fight for every inch on the grass. But we need that atmosphere and if we have that energy in the stadium then maybe something special can happen. If the supporters understand that then we can make it a day to remember.

“I'm very excited, like you should be if it's your first home league match. I can't wait. I said this more or less after the away game we had in Coventry. We would have liked to play the following day, not wait nearly two weeks.”

Wagner has detected a chink or two in the Burnley armour he wants the Canaries to exploit.

“My guys are not stupid. They know Burnley better than I do, as they have played them already,” he said. “We've prepared them with all the information which we have. We feel we have seen some areas where we think even Burnley is vulnerable, and hopefully we can exploit this. This is how football works. But it is no secret, they are top of the league for a reason and the Championship team of the season.

“They play energetic, intensive football. They are brave, they do not give the opponent a lot of time with the ball. But you can have problems with this style of football. Maybe we can explore those.

“They have only lost two games in the whole season. Like always, we show them the respect they deserve. But first and foremost we look at ourselves. I respect them but this goes for any opponent I don’t care who it is. We have to make sure that we play on our highest level.

"Everything we have done so far since I came here will not be good enough against Burnley, because they are the top team in the division. But we will try to play on our highest standard.”
