Adam Idah has the lot and David Wagner is up for the challenge of turning the Norwich City striker into a goalscoring machine.

Idah penned a new Carrow Road deal recently that will keep him with the Canaries until at least 2028.

The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland international has endured an injury-hit few seasons, but Wagner wants him to emerge as a key figure in his revamp.

The German helped the likes of Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and World Cup winner Matthias Ginter reach the top, during his time working with Borussia Dortmund’s best prospects.

“I worked with a lot of talents, when I was in Dortmund, or in Hoffenheim as well and, to be fair, Adam is a real talent,” he said. “I really like what I've seen.

"He is a fantastic age and obviously, yes, he has space to improve. This is the truth but I think he is everything to become a very good striker.

“He has more or less everything. He has pace, he's powerful, his technique is good, even if it's not perfect. He's good in the air as well. So obviously, as I said, he has a lot of space to improve.

"I've had a lot of conversations with him and he likes to learn, he likes to adapt, he's totally open minded. We have a clear plan what we like to do and I'm more than happy that myself and my backroom staff are able to support him and to help him come to the level which we all hope he can reach.”

Idah pushed his claims for a start at Bristol City in the Championship this weekend with a cameo in the 3-0 home defeat to Burnley.

“Adam and Nacho (Marcelino Nunez) were very lively when they came on the pitch. It wasn't easy for all the subs to come on, when you are 3-0 down,” said Wagner. “We hope his injury problems are in the past.

"But I think sometimes I have the feeling this can help you to mature as a professional, and as a human being as well. To really know what it means when everything is not very easy and smooth.

"When you can’t do what you love it helps you to grow. Now he has this experience behind him. He was able to take a lot of positives out of this bad time. Now it's all about the future. We have to make sure that he consistently stays healthy.”
