Here is Paddy’s verdict on David Wagner’s Norwich City, who finished with 10 men, more injuries and more Championship angst.

Angus Gunn              6

One of the more bizarre concessions of his season in the manner Martyn Waghorn controlled a booming defensive clearance to lift it over the stranded keeper, and then see it cannon back off the woodwork and hit Grant Hanley to drop in.

Dived on the ball when Jack Rudoni tried an early attempt to flick it around him inside the six yard box, after initially lifting it above Hanley. Good starting position to clear from Ramani Edmonds-Green.

•  Max Aarons              5

Very quiet as an attacking force by his normal standards. Took a booking when he hauled back Ben Jackson, after the Huddersfield man veered infield. Got out quickly to block a Josh Ruffel’s strike at the back post.

Grant Hanley (C)             5

Luckless deflection saw him credited with an own goal when he tried to race back but was unable to do more than divert Waghorn’s lob over his line. Accepted the invitation to step into midfield in the first period.

Angled the perfectly-weighted ball for Marquinhos but there was no takers for his roll across the six yard box. Took a Jackson hit flush in the face in the 59th minute.

Ben Gibson             5

Shift ended early with a left hamstring injury. Knew straight away in the manner he signalled to the bench after a defensive corner. Denied by Tomas Vaclik, who tipped over his swerving 25 yard strike. Drilled a gorgeous ball down the channel for Kenny McLean.

Dimi Giannoulis     5

More adventurous than Max Aarons in that first period. The wet surface took a Hanley pass away from him. Outmuscled by Rudoni on the edge of the Terriers’ area, but raced back to retrieve the situation.

Up in support again to control a McLean pass but Marquinhos was crowded out as he stood up a cross. Got a block on Jackson’s shot from the edge of the area. Front foot again, but with Josh Sargent in space he put the ball behind the American. Run and cross at full pelt claimed by Vaclik.

Kenny McLean       7

Looked to be enjoying himself in that first half when there was no intense press in the manner Sunderland served up harassment.

Skidded a ball in behind for Adam Idah, who tried to pick out Gabby Sara in a signal of more to come. Then reversed Gibson’s raking pass into Dimi Giannoulis. Should hit the target in the 14th minute when he linked with Sargent but pulled his effort wide on the angle.

Glanced a header over from the near post area on a Sara corner. Triggered the move for the Brazilian’s opener. Twice headed clear inside his own area in the 30th minute. Another long chip set Teemu Pukki away, but Huddersfield got men back.

Jacob Sorensen    6

Restored to midfield and brought that composure prior to the interval. Glided away from two opponents to advance to the edge of the area but put too much on his intended pass for the overlapping Giannouils.

Probing corner from the left dropped inside the six yard box but Huddersfield cleared Took a Sara slip pass in his stride to burst past two before over running the ball.

Marquinhos                 4

Referee clearly indicated to Pukki he felt the Brazilian had led with an elbow in the red card incident that is likely to rule the Arsenal man out for the next three games. Peripheral figure for the most part.

Slide rule pass from Sara to Sargent, but the winger's cross was too heavy. A later roll across the penalty box had no takers.

• Gabby Sara           7

Another high quality finish after another deployment nearer the sharp end of Norwich’s midfield. Slipped in Idah and Sargent inside the opening seven minutes. But then raced into the box in support when Idah flew down the left again midway through the half before a composed, cushioned volley slotted inside Vaclik’s near post.

Whipped a left footed effort from 20 yards wide on the restart. Showed his class again in the way he released Sorensen.

But turned into trouble in the move that brought Huddersfield’s leveller, when Josh Koroma’s booming clearance dropped to Waghorn.

Josh Sargent   6

Looked more of a threat when he was down the middle leading the line. But Idah’s exit and Pukki’s arrival saw him shifted to the wider areas at the start of the second period. Exchanged passes with McLean in the 14th minute, and the Scot should hit the target on the angle.

Sensed an opportunity when found by Marquinhos but as he cut inside the defender came across and the ball veered the wrong side of the near post.

Adam Idah   5

Another injury-hit outing after he departed with a foot problem that now requires further assessment. Key figure in the Norwich goal, with the raw pace to get away from two and then the composure to check back and chip a ball Sara crashed home.

Subs

Andrew Omobamidele (for Gibson, 34)          6

Bar the space afforded Waghorn to slot the equaliser when he tried to roll the ball into Sara a decent hour in the bank. Well-positioned to clear inside his own six yard box from Ruffels’ centre.

Travelled into enemy territory in the 75th minute to slip in Pukki, who saw his cross cut out. Desperate sliding block foiled Jackson in stoppage time.

Teemu Pukki (for Idah, 42)          5

Tried the trademark shift onto the right and shot back across the defender on a couple of occasions, but blocked on both tries. Controlled McLean’s raking pass to get in behind with space to probe but his cross struck home defenders.

Slipped over in a tussle with Michal Helik but his penalty appeals got short shrift. Reversed a ball into Christos Tzolis, who brought a save from Vaclik at his near post.

Sam McCallum (for Giannoulis, 76)       n/a

Liam Gibbs (for Sorensen, 77)              n/a

Christos Tzolis (for Sargent, 77)            n/a

Made the run and found by Pukki in the 89th minute but his right-footed snap shoot was pawed behind by Vaclik.
