Fit-again Norwich City striker Adam Idah is ‘ready to go’ for the Republic of Ireland’s glamour Euro2024 home opener against France on Monday night.

Canaries’ head coach David Wagner feared the forward could be out ‘for a number of weeks’ after injuring his foot in the Championship draw at Huddersfield.

Idah was sidelined for the goalless stalemate at Stoke prior to the international period with the 22-year-old set for further assessment by the club’s medical staff.

But the Cork-bred attacker joined up with the Irish squad and has now proved his fitness to head coach Stephen Kenny ahead of a Dublin duel with the French.

“Adam Idah is fully fit. He is okay and absolutely ready to go. Yes, he comes into our plans,” said Kenny. “He trained well (on Saturday) and he has been playing consistently for Norwich every week so he comes back into the squad.

“This is a special night. A great tradition with Ireland and France over the years and the players can take inspiration from that. We have been building this team for the last two years and I feel now the young players have come in and become leaders and this is the evolution and the growth.

"We are looking forward to playing France. We respect their exceptional achievements, but we also find that exciting.

“We have seen a lot of France and they have been the best team in the world over these past eight years, for sure, consistently getting to World Cup finals. Very rare a number one seed with world class players like Holland get taken apart like that. (4-0 French win on Friday) They were defeated convincingly.”

Idah had been an ever-present under Wagner after returning from a knee injury that kept him out for the majority of the first part of the league season.

Norwich return to Championship action at home to Sheffield United on Saturday. Onel Hernandez (ankle) and Kieran Dowell (knee) will not be back until next month at the earliest.

Young wide player Jonny Rowe was set for further scans over the international period to assess a hamstring problem that has stalled his latest comeback. Sam Byram, Przemyslaw Placheta and Isaac Hayden are longer term absentees.
