David Wagner is confident he will be backed to overhaul Norwich City’s squad this summer.

The Canaries’ head coach, and sporting director Stuart Webber, both indicated prior to the toxic weekend league defeat to Swansea that Onel Hernandez’s new contract is the start of a much-needed refresh.

Webber was berated by some City fans during the 3-0 home loss, with the Canaries now set to miss out Championship promotion, but Wagner has reiterated change is coming.

“What I can say is that all our conversations which I have had with the board, and with the owner as well, I'm 100pc sure that everyone wants to change this,” he said. “For me this is the most important message, and this gives me confidence. This is our aim with the window in front of us.

“To be totally honest, this has been the case for a few weeks. You can learn a lot about individuals, and about the group in these next weeks, as well as in the time we have already had.

"We have taken all the information on board to refresh and bring bodies in, and players who have the right mindset to be successful for our football club.

“We have a hell of a lot of work to do. Not everything in the past was perfect, without a shadow of a doubt. Every football club, whoever it is, in the future will not make everything right as well.

"But it's very important we understand it can only work if we stick together. This has been one of the strengths, and can be in the future, of this football club. Everybody told me before I arrived this was one of the reasons why you were so successful in recent years.”

Wagner knows the scale of the challenge after a bumpy three months in charge.

“You only know it when you are really in the environment. From the outside maybe one can look and think it's easier than it is, but I'm really looking forward to it,” he said. “I'm very, very excited about it and what we have in front of us.

"But, like I say, I know we have work to do. This is obvious for everybody to see after the experiences this club has had in the last few seasons.”
