Norwich City head coach David Wagner says he can't hide his excitement for next season, with summer transfer plans already being executed.

City targeted promotion at the start of this season, but are now extremely unlikely to achieve it, with two games left and Wagner's side five places short of the Championship play-offs.

Wagner looked forward to the next campaign in his press conference previewing this weekend's meeting with West Brom, expressing his eagerness at the task ahead.

"Now I have a very good inside view, and we already made our first decisions, we already planned for next season," he said.

"To be totally honest, for a few weeks I’ve been so excited about next season, and this doesn’t matter which division we are in. It’s only because I know there’s a lot of space for improvement. We have a lot of work to do.

"We already had the first meetings and conversations with players and agents as well, so we are really working hard behind the scenes to improve this team and this football club for the next season.

"But we still have two further games to go, where I like that our players who are in charge now try to make their best. They really make their learning curve upwards, and this is what we are focused on at the minute.

"But I’m absolutely excited about what is in front of us."

Sporting director Stuart Webber promised "a number of changes" in the announcement of Onel Hernandez' new contract earlier this year, but Wagner is keen to focus on the short term for now.

"We’re now speaking about the winter, and the next summer transfer window without starting the first transfer window," he continued.

"To give a serious answer, let’s get these two games done, and then make sure we have a proper pre-season and a proper window.

"We’ll get the plan we have in place. Obviously, normally nothing is done in one window, but you can do a lot. This, for sure, is what we aim for."
