David Wagner revealed Norwich City have already given transfer targets the Colney tour as he plots a swift start to a busy summer transfer window.

The Canaries’ head coach wants a major overhaul to his squad, with City confirming on Friday another five players will depart this summer along with Teemu Pukki.

Isaac Hayden and Marquinhos also return to their respective parent clubs, but Wagner is looking to replace the holes in his first team squad.

“I never had the feeling in these past four months when I was here we had too many to pick from,” he said. “We have made the first decisions. For sure, they are not the last ones. I am very happy with what we already have in our head and obviously we had some first conversations, had some players here, and showed them the training ground in the last week.

"It's a very busy period, which we already started, and the next weeks will be very busy as well. So the first steps are done. But we have a lot of further steps to do in this window.”

Wagner is not interested in a rush of signings to appease City’s fan base after a Championship season that fell well short of their promotion target.

“If you speak about the fans, yes, obviously it would accelerate enthusiasm and positivity if you get some good signings in early,” he said. “But to be totally honest, we will not do this for the fans. We will do it first and foremost for us, because I like to have the players in as soon as possible.

"Pre-season is crucial, and the more players you have in at the start of pre-season the better. That period is quite difficult anyway, because obviously we have a few internationals and this means some players come in a little bit later than others.

“If we can get the players in we like to have, early, then great. If not, then we are lucky that they have still a good part of the off-season which they need to recharge the batteries.

"And this means that even the internationals will have four or five weeks pre-season as well.”
