Former Norwich City youngster Cameron McGeehan has described winning the FA Youth Cup as a 'great feeling', 10 years on from captaining the Canaries to the trophy.

McGeehan played amongst a golden generation of young City players, including Carlton Morris, Harry Toffolo and both Murphy twins, helping them to a 4-2 aggregate win over Chelsea in 2013.

McGeehan scored two penalties in the tie, one in each leg, while Josh Murphy's strike added to an Adam Nditi own goal for a 3-2 second-leg win.

The midfielder never made a senior appearance for Norwich, however, leaving in 2015 after loan spells with Luton Town and Cambridge United.

He still has good memories of that night at Stamford Bridge, however, saying: "We all had a good feeling about the night. The journey was good, we were all such a close group of players and there's still a group of us that are really close now.

"To do that all together was such a great feeling. We all thought we were good enough to do it, so it didn't feel like much of a surprise to us."

Travelling to West London with the 1-0 lead McGeehan's spot kick had established gave the young City side confidence they could pull off an upset.

"With that lead, we had a lot of belief," McGeehan continued, speaking to official club channels. "We thought we could do it, and luckily we did.

"It was another great experience at such an amazing stadium. I think there was quite a lot of Norwich fans there that day, which was incredible.

"There was a little bit of extra in it for me as it was against Chelsea. I had been released by them a few years before those games, so it was definitely a good feeling for me.

"All my family are from London, and they were all there to watch it. Especially my Dad, he was the one taking me everywhere during my career, taking me up to Norwich a lot. Definitely a special moment for me to lift it in front of them."

The 28-year-old reserved praise for then-coach Neil Adams, who is now assistant sporting director at Carrow Road. "Neil was amazing to work with, and definitely helped to bring the team all together," he said.

"He allowed us to have a bit of freedom. We had a few characters in the team, and it was important we had the right person to manage that. He got the best out of all of us throughout that cup run.

"On a personal note, he helped me a lot too. I think he helped me improve my game, and paid a lot of attention to me throughout that season as we worked closely together. He was a key part of the win."

The bond created by that win has remained even until now, according to McGeehan, who said: "We try to stay in touch as much as we can. I got on really well with Jacob and Josh Murphy, as well as Carlton Morris and Cameron Norman. We're all in a group chat together, and we're in there regularly.

"It's great to see how their careers have developed. I was really close with them back then, and still close with them now. They all came to my wedding in the summer, which is really nice."

McGeehan now plays for Belgian side KV Oostende, and is enjoying his time in mainland Europe after three years at Barnsley.

"It's been a good experience so far," he said of his time at Oostende. "I always wanted to play abroad. I've been learning a new way of living, and learning a bit of French. All new experiences for me, and experiencing a new culture.

"On a football-side, it's a new style of play and it's a great league to play in. I get to play against Champions League and Europa League teams, the level is really high, which only helps to make me a better player.

"I think I've improved a lot as a player since coming here. I've been made captain at the club, which is an amazing experience, especially as I've come over from England."

He keeps an eye out for City's results, however, and has good memories of Norfolk. He continued: "Of course, I'm always keeping in with how the club gets on. It was a special place for me as a player, and I had a lot of great memories at the club.

"They helped me a lot as a player. They were the first team to give me a professional contract. It felt like the perfect club at the perfect time, and helped me a lot as a player.

"I love Norwich, it's such a great city and the people and the fans around were great too."
