Norwich City have lost the race to sign Aberdeen midfielder Ross McCrorie, according to reports.

The Aberdeen star was supposedly a target for the Canaries this summer as they continue their summer refresh of the squad, but have lost out to Bristol City, who are set to complete a £2million move for the 25-year-old.

Bristol Live are reporting that Nigel Pearson's men are close to the double signing of Fulham left-back Joe Bryan and McCrorie - with the Scot electing to turn down more lucrative wages elsewhere after being impressed by the Robins' pitch and facilities.

McCrorie was wanted by both West Brom and Norwich, according to the report - but is now set to join Bristol City after productive talks, although there are still elements of the deal to be fully completed in the coming days.

A versatile player, McCrorie has played the majority of his football as a centre back this season, although can cover in midfield, full back and has even featured at right-midfield at points this season.

It's been in defensive midfield where he has impressed at Aberdeen in the last six months, becoming a key player under Barry Robson, who has stabilised the Scottish club after a disappointing opening to the campaign.

McCrorie made 31 appearances in the Scottish Premiership this season, scoring on two occasions.

Norwich are set to complete the signing of experienced forward Ashley Barnes this week after the 33-year-old agreed a two-year deal to move to Norfolk.

City are ramping up their recruitment drive after a disappointing Championship campaign that saw them finish 13th.

A busy summer is expected at Carrow Road as David Wagner and Stuart Webber seek to reshape the squad - that is likely to include a number of incomings and departures.

Motherwell full back Max Johnston is on their list of potential targets this summer as he is set to become a free agent and was one of the players given a tour of Colney prior to the Blackpool fixture.
