Sao Paulo are keeping close tabs on Gabriel Sara's transfer situation at Norwich City this summer in the hope a windfall could help them fund a spending spree of their own.

Reports in Brazil state that Sara's previous employers are holding out for a sale of the midfielder this summer as they seek to push into the Copa Libertadores qualifiers next season.

Globo Esporte are reporting that the club are entitled to a 10pc sell-on fee plus a sum as part of Fifa's solidarity mechanism for being Sara's first club. Those fees would only be paid to the Brazilian club if Norwich decided to sell the midfielder.

Norwich signed Sara from Sao Paulo for a fee of £6million, although that could rise substantially if certain clauses get met.

The midfielder has impressed during his first year in England - scoring some stunning goals and catching the eye of Premier League and European clubs due to the high levels of his performances.

A host of top-flight clubs have scouted Sara with City's sporting director Stuart Webber stating that the club were ready to fight off 'big interest' in the 23-year-old this summer.

The report claims that no bids for Sara have been submitted as of yet with the midfielder and his representatives understood to be happy to remain at Carrow Road next season to continue his progression.

Sara hinted at his desire to stay in a recent interview as he reflected on his debut campaign at Norwich.

"I always fight for my dreams. That's why I agreed to come to Norwich. I wanted to play in the Premier League,” he told ESPN Brazil. “That's my goal for next season. What was frustration this season, I hope next season can be joy of people getting this promotion and me fulfilling my dream of playing in the Premier League.

"It was terrible at the beginning. It was very difficult. Also because of the language. And also because everyone was at a different pace. The guys were in pre-season, everyone was flying and I was still coming back from surgery.

"I even joke with my father that everyone was very fast and I was very slow. And then, as I started to get the rhythm back, regaining confidence, feeling better, things started to flow.”
