Norwich City are interested in striking a loan deal for out-of-favour Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser.

It's understood the Scottish international is among their targets this summer as they seek to improve the squad after a disappointing 13th placed finish in the Championship last term.

The 29-year-old has been frozen out under Eddie Howe and played just 311 minutes for Newcastle last term but is available to sign this summer.

Before that, the winger played a key role to help Newcastle survive the drop in the Premier League but has been frozen out and forced to train with under-21s despite having another two years left on his deal at St James' Park.

His last appearance for Newcastle came as a substitute in their 1-0 victory over Everton back in October.

Discussing Fraser's situation back in March, Howe explained why he made the decision to move him away from the first team group.

"I made the decision to concentrate on the players that are committed to Newcastle and for the benefit of the group I made that call," he told the Newcastle Chronicle.

"I think it's a difficult one for me to answer. Because I've never put a firm decision on that because life can change quickly. At the moment he doesn't."

Fraser is likely to have other options but Norwich are pushing to add him to their ranks having already signed experienced Burnley forward Ashley Barnes, Jack Stacey and Irish international Shane Duffy on free transfers this summer.

Norwich are keen to add to wide areas, with Fraser among the list of targets including Reading's Tom Ince and others.

Fraser has spent three years with Newcastle after running down his contract at Bournemouth following a seven-year long association with the Cherries where he made 208 appearances for the club and was key to their rise to the Premier League.

He also spent a brief period of time on loan at Norwich's rivals Ipswich Town in 2015/16, making 16 appearances during his time at Portman Road.

The experienced winger has also made 26 appearances for Scotland since 2017, scoring four goals on the international scene.
