Norwich City are unlikely to sign out of contract Motherwell right back Max Johnston this summer.

The teenager has been heavily linked with the club throughout the summer and is understood to have visited their Colney training base prior to the end of the season at the start of May.

Despite Johnston being keen on a move to Carrow Road, the two parties have been unable to agree terms and it looks increasingly unlikely that he will be a Norwich player come the start of next season.

The 19-year-old has interest from Premier League, Championship and Serie A clubs after turning down a new deal at Motherwell but is choosing his next option based on playing pathway rather than prestige or league.

It's understood Norwich were considered among the strongest domestic options he has received, with the appeal of working with a German coach in David Wagner thought to be appealing.

Norwich have been in dialogue with Johnston and his representatives for a prolonged period of time but now look increasingly unlikely to win the race to sign the Scotland U21 international.

City have already added Jack Stacey to that area of the pitch as well as confirming the signing of Kellen Fisher on Friday morning.

The highly-rated teenager joins having played a prominent role in their National League play-off campaign.

Bromley boss Andy Woodman, who worked with the youngster throughout this season and gave him a chance in the first team, offered him a warm send-off after he completed his move to Norwich.

“From day one when I came to Bromley I could see Kellen was a really good young talent," Woodman told their official channels.

“The key for me was when to expose him to First Team football and once I did, he just excelled. I’m extremely proud and chuffed to have seen another young player under my coaching career progress. Kellen will no doubt have a bright future.”

Norwich are expected to complete the signing of 16-year-old Hamilton midfielder Gabriel Forsyth in the coming days as well as being linked with a move to sign Bulgarian winger Georgi Rusev.
