Jonathan Rowe believes David Wagner is the perfect coach to kick on his development at Norwich City.

It's believed Wagner was briefed by his existing people at the club that Rowe would be a player capable of fitting his system perfectly but injuries limited his involvement in the second half of the Championship campaign last season.

Rowe is hoping to put the fitness struggles firmly behind him in his quest to force his way into Wagner's plans.

The winger is confident that City's boss is the best person to accelerate his development at a pivotal part of his career due his preferred way of playing and coaching style.

"Me being a wide man and a creative, direct winger - I feel this style of play that he has going for us is really suiting me," Rowe said after City's 6-1 friendly win over King's Lynn Town.

"Last season, I don't like to touch upon it too much, was tough for me to get back especially in a tough season towards the end. From what I'd heard about him before he came in, he likes intensity, desire and passion - all of those things tick my boxes.

"Hopefully now he can see it and that I can help him achieve him all the goals we want to achieve as a club.

"We have a good relationship. He is very demanding, and I like that because it gets the best out of all of us - it makes me a better player."

Rowe has impressed in City's two opening friendly fixtures against Barnet and King's Lynn - netting at the Hive on Tuesday.

There is plenty of competition for those starting positions in wide areas - especially after it was confirmed that new signing Borja Sainz will be missing until October through injury.

Rowe is acutely aware of how pivotal this pre-season period is for many of Norwich's players - himself included as he seeks to prove himself after breaking into the first team in the Premier League.

"I feel for everyone it is a big pre-season," Rowe admitted. "For me personally, I feel that I've really challenged myself and pressure is something that I really like. I like to see how I cope under pressure because it's a test of your character.

"If you can overcome it and block out the noise, then you can really show your true self."
