A paddleboarder died in hospital three days after drowning in The Soham Reservoir, an inquest opening has revealed.
Daryl Thornhill, 26, who was also known as Daryl Guy, died at the Royal Papworth Hospital, in Cambridge, on April 14 this year.
At the brief hearing to open his inquest, his provisional cause of death was given as drowning in freshwater while paddleboarding on April 11.
Caroline Jones, an area coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, shared limited information about the incident during the hearing.
For example, she did not reveal exactly where the incident happened, but his family later explained it was at The Soham Reservoir, off Thrift Drove.
Ms Jones said: “These are very preliminary enquiries that are ongoing and therefore the matter stands adjourned to a date to be fixed.”

The inquest opening took place at Lawrence Court, in Huntingdon, on May 2.
Mr Thornhill’s provisional cause of death was given as 1A Hypoxic brain injury due to 1B drowning.
