Cameron Norman looks set to stay and help King's Lynn Town's promotion challenge, despite reports of interest from Football League clubs.

Norman spoke to Linnets chairman Stephen Cleeve after a story appeared claiming a number of clubs were chasing the 22-year-old attacking full-back.

'We had a good chat and basically he said he was going to stay until the end of the season and then we would sit chat and talk again,' said Cleeve. 'That's good news, but he knows we would not stand in his way.'

Norwich City academy product Norman – who helped the Canaries win the FA Youth Cup in 2013 – has been one of the revelations of a fine season for the Linnets, who are top of the Southern League.

The youngster is nominally a full-back, but such is Lynn's attacking style under manager Ian Culverhouse, that Norman has played a huge role in Lynn's goals tally this season, scoring five goals in 37 league and cup starts and providing numerous assists.

King was signed just before the opening game of the season and it is understood he has spent time on trial with Northampton Town who, along with Portsmouth, Oxford United and Doncaster Rovers are said to be keen on signing him.

Some of those clubs are known to have scouted the Sprowston-born player, but Cleeve is happy with his commitment to the cause.

'I think Cameron puts bums on seats,' he said. 'I think he has got something about him,' he said.

'He is a full-back but clearly has a huge input when he gets over the halfway line. He could become a really special player under the coaching he is getting from the manager, that will only help.

'Overall I think he is a great player to watch – but we mustn't forget on the other side we have Frazer Blake-Tracy who does a fantastic job.'

The Linnets are without a game this weekend, but Culverhouse will no doubt be keeping an eye on the clubs immediately below – all of whom are at home. Hereford, four points back with four games in hand, play Biggleswade. Weymouth, six points behind Lynn, face St Neots, Kettering, eight back with two games in hand, host Tiverton, while Slough, 18 points behind but with seven games in hand, play Banbury.
