Elliott Bennett could return to face former club Norwich City in the Championship next season, after helping Blackburn seal promotion from League One.

The winger, now aged 29, was a popular Canaries player after joining from Brighton in 2011 and went on to play 58 games in the Premier League.

However, a serious knee injury on the opening day of the 2013-14 campaign halted the speedy wide man's progress. He was on the fringes of City's return to the top flight via the play-offs the following season, making 19 appearances, before a loan at Bristol City in 2015-16.

That earned a permanent move to Blackburn and although he couldn't prevent Rovers dropping in to League One, he has played an integral part in their promotion, sealed by a 1-0 win at Doncaster on Tuesday.

Bennett posted on Twitter: 'What a feeling, what a team, what a club! We had a goal and now we have achieved it. Enjoy Rovers fans you deserve it!'
