Lowestoft Town captain Rossi Jarvis admitted his side made a number of poor decisions as Leiston claimed the bragging rights in the Suffolk derby.

An own goal from Rory McAuley and a classy strike from former Trawlerboy Joe Marsden was enough for the visitors to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

'It really wasn't good enough,' admitted Jarvis. 'We were poor with the ball in the final third, our crosses and last ball were poor and we looked vulnerable when we had the ball - as both of their goals came from us attacking.

'There are too many people doing too many jobs - we are on a bad run at the moment and we have just got to stick together to change things.'

Manager Ady Gallagher made one change from the 2-0 defeat at Harlow Town as Harvey Hodd came into the starting XI in place of the injured Adam Smith.

There were some familiar faces returning to the Amber Dew Events Stadium with keeper Marcus Garnham, Joe Marsden, Jack Ainsley, Robert Eagle, Christy Finch, Dominic Docherty and Joe Jefford well known to home fans for their appearances in recent seasons.

It was the visiting side, in their bright orange shirts, that had the first chance of the game.

Robert Eagle's corner eluded everyone - apart from keeper Dudzinski - who tipped the ball onto the crossbar.

Lowestoft, who began the match one place outside the bottom three, did have a half chance on 20 minutes as Jacek Zielonka shot wide from distance.

Then came the first of two quick bookings for the Trawlerboys. McAuley was cautioned for a foul on Sam Ford before Dean Leacock fouled the same man - as the game sparked into life.

Leiston were continuing to press with Eagle's free-kick floating over and Kyle Hammond also going close.

Marsden nearly made the breakthrough on 37 minutes, as his dart inside and left-footed strike cannoned back off the crossbar.

There was still time for the woodwork to be hit for a third time before the interval, as Docherty's effort from a Hammond corner, struck the inside of the post.

After the restart the Trawlerboys had a golden chance to seize the initiative.

A scuffed shot from McAuley found Jake Reed in space, but his shot was miraculously cleared off the line by a visiting defender.

And just moments later, on 51 minutes, Leiston took the lead.

A cross from the far side found Eagle, and his cross was diverted into his own net by McAuley.

It got worse on 56 minutes as Marsden picked up the ball and after finding a lot of space in front him, unleashed a low shot past Dudzinski from 25 yards to double the visitors' lead.

Leiston continued to look the most likely to score the next goal, with keeper Dudzinski saving well from Finch to keep the score at two.

Lowestoft did attempt to throw bodies forward towards the end, but Leiston dealt with everything that was thrown at them and came away with the bragging rights at full time.

Attention now turns to the FA Cup tie away at Bedford Town for the Trawlerboys, with Jarvis hoping it is a welcome distraction.

'We probably need it just to freshen things up and to take a break from the league for a couple of weeks,' he said. 'The FA Cup is a brilliant to be involved in and hopefully we can win and get back to winning ways.'
