Alex Neil wants no more hard luck stories after a bruising Premier League relegation.

The Scot faces a busy summer plotting City's Championship fightback after failing to win their survival battle to stay in the big league.

'It is about mentality and what I mean by that is it isn't one single thing, it is about consistency and how things click where you just roll into each game believing and knowing you can win games and go in with a real confidence and a high performance level,' said Neil. 'The same applies when you are not winning games, you go out and give it everything you have got but something doesn't go your way. You seem to be that hard luck story and that is how I have felt (last season) and that is not a good situation for us to be in.'

City earned promotion 12 months ago in thrilling fashion with an attacking brand of football that Neil curbed in his bid for Premier League points.

'If you play with a certain style and it is not winning games do you stick with that style? We went through a period when we got limited points and it is easy for people to talk about identity,' said Neil. 'The one thing I would say is I was brought here as an offensive coach. Every team I have ever been in charge of has been offensive but when you go in with that mindset against the likes of Arsenal, the likes of Chelsea, the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Southampton, Tottenham and ultimately they have a better attacking team then you need to find another way.

'If I go toe-to-toe with them the chances are we are going to lose so we have to find a different way to be as competitive as we can. It is easy for people to label that and say we didn't find a style. If you can find a winning style then you play it every week.'
