The young Canaries warmed up for tomorrow's FA Youth Cup tie against Oldham at Carrow Road with a resounding local derby victory over Ipswich, who themselves put Leeds out of the competition at Portman Road last week.

At Colney, Ipswich found themselves up against a Norwich side on top of their game and had it not been for a memorable second- half performance from substitute goalkeeper Dan O'Neil, the margin of victory could have been much greater.

It took City only six minutes to score when captain Taylor McKenzie ghosted on to a Michael Clunan corner to send a thumping header beyond 'keeper Connor O'Donnell.

A slip by Harry Barker almost cost City their lead but 'keeper Remi Matthews came to the rescue, producing a superb point-blank save.

After 36 minutes, it was 2-0 as Jacob Murphy raced clear and managed to pick out Jamar Loza, who was perfectly placed to find the net.

Town made two substitutions at half-time including the introduction of O'Neil, who was soon in the thick of the action, saving from the impressive Clunan.

A superb kick from Matthews then sent Murphy racing clear but his rising shot was turned over by O'Neil.

Reece Hall-Johnson was the next to be frustrated by the in-form O'Neil when he blocked the City stiker's effort and Clunan was unable to keep his shot on target.

After 76 minutes, Norwich all but sealed the win when Hall-Johnson raced down the left and crossed for Loza, who slid the ball past O'Neil.

In the final 10 minutes, Hall-Johnson was again denied by O'Neil, who then needed two attempts to gather a Cameron McGeehan 25-yard effort.

There was still enough time for Hall-Johnson to be foiled yet again, then, in stoppage time, with O'Neil beaten, Nic Schoder cleared a Clunan effort off the line.
