Norwich City's supporters deserve better and Alex Neil is determined not to let them down over the Premier League run-in.

The Canaries' have slipped into the relegation zone after nine top flight games without a win, but City have been backed by huge numbers at both Leicester and Swansea with another Carrow Road full house expected for Manchester City's weekend visit.

Neil accepts Norwich is in a perilous position but the Scot insists they must fight on.

'The one thing I would say is there is no reason for the fans to back us as much as they have done because we have not given them much, that is me being honest, and that disappoints me greatly because I want to do well for this club and for them, but we will keep going and keep trying,' he said. 'I would like to think the fans recognise I am doing everything I possibly can to try and keep us in the league, and that the players are doing their very best too.

'I don't think anybody could say about my players that they are not trying or that they are giving up.

'In the last few games these guys are losing teeth and getting gashed heads and everything, and they keep going and they keep trying. I am working as hard as I possibly can to make it work. The fans have been in great form, they have stuck with us, we have not given them a lot to shout about and I thought they were in fine voice again (at Swansea).'

Norwich face a daunting test against title-challenging Manchester City on Saturday, but the Canaries pushed champions Chelsea all the way at Carrow Road last time on home soil in a controversial 2-1 defeat.

'You can look at West Ham, Liverpool and Chelsea and we have played extremely well and created plenty of chances,' said Neil. 'West Ham we are leading 2-0 and we really should see it out. Mark Noble's finish was a great one but for it to get to that stage was extremely disappointing. We had our chances against Chelsea and Leicester as well but when you concede after 39 seconds that is really frustrating and you give yourself a mountain to climb.'
