Bury-born Tierney started his career in Lancashire with Oldham, where be made 47 appearances before a free transfer switch to Shrewsbury in January, 2007. He quickly became a first team regular at the Shropshire club, notching up 90 games, many of them alongside Grant Holt.
His form was noted by then Colchester boss Lambert and after a initial loan spell in Essex he quickly became a regular under the Scot. He left the Weston Homes Community Stadium with 85 appearances to his name, including the two never-to-be-forgotten games against the Canaries in the 2009/10 season - City’s 7-1 defeat at Carrow Road and their 5-0 victory in the return fixture. He was booked in both games.
Tierney, who was also linked with a move to Norwich last season when the Canaries were embroiled in a bitter dispute with Colchester over Lambert’s switch to Carrow Road, was quoted at the time: “My girlfriend went shopping the other day and someone asked her if I was going to Norwich!
“I’d just like to say that I would never in a million years go to Norwich. I can categorically say that!”
The left-back made his Norwich City debut at Crystal Palace on January 29 coming on as a substitute for the injured Adam Drury.
