The former Hartlepool captain arrived at Carrow Road in July 2009 to bring a resolve to the City defence that had been missing since Malky Mackay's exit.

It was not until the autumn that Nelson established himself in the side before an injury halted his run, but from mid-December he was a virtual ever-present.

Powerful in the air and strong in the challenge he never allows a striker an easy ride.

He netted City's promotion clinching effort at Charlton and title clincher against Gillingham seven days later.
