As Paul Lambert’s first signing of the January transfer window, Howson arrived at Carrow Road following a memorable spell with boyhood club Leeds where he made 193 appearances in all competitions, scoring 28 goals.
As captain he helped guide the Whites to second place and promotion in the 2009-10 season, which saw the Canaries take the league title, also playing a major part in United’s seventh place finish in the Championship that season.
The England Under-21 international also made 20 appearances in the Championship last season, scoring once before picking up a knee injury in the Whites 2-0 win over Millwall on December 3.
Howson made his Leeds United debut against Hull City in 2006, before becoming United’s youngest captain since Billy Bremner when then manager Gary McAllister awarded him the captaincy as a 19-year old in April 2009.
The midfielder also scored his first goal for Leeds against the Canaries in 2007, opening the scoring before Dion Dublin and Darren Huckerby secured a 2-1 win for City at Carrow Road.
Howson made his debut for the Canaries in a 1-0 defeat to Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on March 3, 2012, but capped off a growing string of fine performances to score his first goal for the club in a 2-2 draw with Everton at Carrow Road.
