Progressing to the fourth round of the Capital One Cup is the sole intention of Norwich City manager Alex Neil tonight - as he wants his players to continue building momentum.

The Canaries have lost just one of their last five Premier League matches after an encouraging 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Sunday.

They welcome top-flight rivals West Brom to Carrow Road this evening and Neil wants his players to approach the game with the right attitude.

“The team will be motivated,” Neil said. “The players who have been
playing want to continue the momentum that we’re on and some of the guys that get a chance to play will certainly want to stake their claim for a place in the team.

“So that should be motivation enough regardless of what the competition is.

“We’ll treat it is a cup game, which means it’s a one-off game and we’ll go out to win it and hopefully we’ll do enough to win the game.”

Neil admits the competition is not a priority for him though, adding: “I think at the stage we’re at, our Premier League hopes and aspirations are our biggest priority but also the Capital One Cup and any cup that we play in is important as well.

“So we’re not going to be dismissive of this competition, we want to do well and we want to win this game. However I would state that the Premier League is much more important for us.”

All of which means fringe players are likely to get a chance tonight.

“It gives me an opportunity to have a look at some players, so we’ll have to wait and see who they are,” Neil said.

“We’ve got a good squad and we’ve got competition for places all over the pitch and the lads are desperate to play, some will get their opportunity and others won’t.”
